“Parrot Cake”

October 22, 2009

On Tuesday I read the children’s page in our local newspaper and a little girl stated that she loves “Papageienkuchen = parrot cake”. I know it from my childhood and decided that it would not do any bad to treat my colleagues (and dad) with some sweet  color. So I went ahead and baked the colorful simple  cake. The recipe I used turned out moist and delicious and the cake was gone in a heartbeat.

 Parrot Cake

1 cup butter

2 cups sugar

4 eggs

1,5 cups flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 cup whipped cream

1 tablespoon cacao

1 tablespoon green jello

1 tablespoon red jello

Take the soft butter and stir in the sugar, eggs and cream. Mix the baking soda with the flour and strain it to the other ingredients. Divide the dough into three parts and mix one with the cacao, one with the green and one with the red jello. Put the three dough in the greased loaf pan and take a fork and go through the dough so that the colors will mix. Then put in the oven for an hour at 150°C/300°F.

I only added powdered sugar on top, but you can also add chocolate or lemon juice and powdered sugar frosting.
