Soul Food Kitchen Sunday

Finally, today I had the time/ took the time and spend some, okay a lot of time in the kitchen. First I made this bean salad with garden beans from my colleague’s garden. Yay, for home-grown vegetables, which are in season!

And then I made the Perfect Chocolate Chip Cookies from Eat, Live, Run. The recipe sounded great as soon as I read it a couple weeks ago. Even though I feared browning the butter and was scared of burning it, I tried it. After all, Emily convinced me, when she stated that the cookies are indeed perfect. And what can I say. I shared them with Carsten, my neighbours next door – the elderly couple – and our neighbours and friends downstairs – a younger couple, who Carsten and I really like. And they all loved them. I usually follow my host mom’s chocolate chip cookie recipe and hers turn out a little more chewy, but those are indeed tasty, too. I don’t have any pictures, because they were gone so quickly. But making and sharing made this time in the kitchen truly a soul food Sunday.

Fun fact: You cannot buy chocolate chips in a bag here in Germany, so I had to chop dark chocolate, which caused more work and even more love went in the cookies…

    I don’t think I would mind having hand-chopped dark chocolate in my cookies! Glad you (and everyone else) enjoyed them!

    No chocolate chips in a bag?? Oh, the horror! Actually I think I like chopped chocolate better too. And aren’t homegrown veggies the best? I want to thank you so much for your sweet comment on my running blog today… it means everything to hear that kind of encouragement, and I really appreciate your words :)
